Slowly up and forward, never back
- Founder Johan Helland
Furniture with care – since 1947
Our story begins in Stordal, a small village in Sunnmøre, in 1947. In the post-war period, the Helland family established Helland Lenestolfabrikk, with the goal of meeting the need for good, functional furniture in a time of reconstruction and austerity. From the very beginning, quality, craftsmanship and responsible production have been central. Towards the end of the 1960s, Helland took the step into the public market, and developed into a recognized supplier of furniture for the nursing, care and institutional markets.
Founder Johan Helland's philosophy was clear:
"Slowly up and forward, never back."
This principle has been a guiding light through generations and still shapes the way we develop furniture today. We have always had a long-term perspective, focusing on sustainable material choices, solid construction and solutions that stand the test of time – both aesthetically and functionally.
Through form-fitting design, high quality and flexible solutions, we have built a strong position in the market. We know that furniture that is adapted to life situation, age and use contributes to better well-being, health and quality of life. Therefore, close collaboration with professionals, users and skilled product designers is a natural and important part of our development process.
Expanding the range – new markets, same values
With over 75 years of experience as a furniture manufacturer, we are now taking the next step and expanding our range to also include furniture for the maritime sector and hotels . This commitment gives us more legs to stand on, while building on the same expertise and the same values that have always characterized Helland: comfort, quality, safety and longevity.
Our experience from demanding healthcare environments provides a solid foundation for developing furniture that meets high demands for durability, ergonomics, maintenance and ease of use – characteristics that are equally relevant at sea and in hotel environments. The result is furniture that combines functionality and comfort with a timeless, professional expression.
We are proud of our history – and equally committed to shaping the future. With roots in Sunnmøre craftsmanship and an eye on the future, we continue to develop furniture that creates good experiences in people's lives, regardless of the arena.
